Arsenal eyeing move for Lazio ace Milinkovic-Savic
Arsenal are reportedly eyeing a move for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic this month, as per the Italian outlet Il Messaggero.
The 27-year-old has been enjoying yet another productive campaign this term with the Biancocelesti, scoring three goals and notching up seven assists in 15 Serie A appearances.
It has widely been touted that the Gunners are exploring the market to strengthen their squad this January in order to help Mikel Arteta in maintaining a title charge and overcome 18 years of Premier League drought.
Midfield appears to be one of the positions where the north London club are looking to reinforce this winter. Arsenal have already been linked with several midfielders, with the Lazio ace among the names reportedly on Mikel Arteta’s radar.
Milinkovic-Savic is set to enter the final 18 months of his current contract and he is yet to renew his deal with Maurizio Sarri’s side.
According to the report by Il Messaggero, the Serbia international could leave Lazio this month and Arsenal are ready to make a move for him.
Milinkovic-Savic to Arsenal
The report further claims that the Biancoceleste are open to letting their star leave on loan this month for an initial fee of around €10m (£9m) with an obligation to make the move permanent for €40m (£35m) next summer. So, the Premier League leaders will need to spend around £44m over the next two windows to sign the midfielder.
The report also says that signing the highly talented midfielder won’t be easy for Arsenal as Juventus are also eyeing a move for him.
The 27-year-old is deemed one of the best midfielders in Serie A and acquiring the service of a talent like him would certainly bolster Arsenal’s midfield.
Milinkovic-Savic is technically sound, good in the air, can play threading passes between the lines and has an eye for scoring goals, so he possesses almost every attribute to play in Arteta’s system.
Milinkovic-Savic would provide depth to the Gunners’ engine room if the Serbian were to move to the Emirates Stadium this winter, which will allow Arteta to rotate his squad and keep his option fresh throughout the rest of the season.
So, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal will formalise their interest in signing Milinkovic-Savic this month. With Arteta looking to strengthen in middle of the park, the Lazio man could be an excellent acquisition.
