Arsenal open talks to sign Juventus star Weston McKennie
Arsenal are reportedly showing an interest in signing Juventus star Weston McKennie and have already made the first move to lure the midfielder to the Emirates Stadium this month, as per the Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
Following the Bianconeri’s 15 points deduction due to financial irregularities, the Old Lady of Turin’s hopes of finishing in the top four positions in Serie A are in serious jeopardy.
And it is thought that several players could look to move away from the Allianz Stadium over the coming months amid the club’s recent turmoil. So, this situation could help potential suitors in purchasing wantaway Juventus stars this month.
According to a report by Gazzetta dello Sport, Arsenal are eyeing a move for McKennie this month and they have already held talks with the player’s entourage over a potential move.
The report also says that Juventus want a fee of around €20m (£17m) plus bonuses to let their star leave and the midfielder would be open to joining a top club in the Premier League such as Arsenal.
McKennie to Arsenal
Arsenal have continued to soar this season against all odds. Very few people thought the Emirates outfit would be able to challenge for the title this term following a disappointing end to last season.
However, the north London club have continued to perform impressively since the start of this season and are now siting top of the table with 50 points from 19 games, five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City with a game in hand. Arsenal have managed to find answers to every problem that was thrown at them so far.
Following Gabriel Jesus’ injury, it felt like that was the sucker punch which would derail their title hopes. But, Eddie Nketiah has filled that void seamlessly and the 23-year-old is now the club’s top scorer with nine goals in all competitions.
Nevertheless, it is always a wise decision to strengthen the squad when opportunities arise and with the Gunners lacking quality options in their engine room after the first eleven, signing a new midfielder would be a shrewd decision this winter and McKennie could be a very good acquisition.
So, it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal will formalise their interest in signing the American this month. Purchasing the 24-year-old would help Arteta in rotating the squad and keep his options fresh throughout the rest of this campaign.
