Caicedo prepared to force a move to Arsenal this month
Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo is reportedly prepared to force his way out of the club to join Arsenal before next week’s deadline, as per the Daily Mail.
After Mohammad Elneny’s latest injury setback, Mikel Arteta has revealed that he wants to sign a new midfielder this month to continue the title charge. The North London club have been linked with several options to reinforce the middle of the park in recent times, with Caicedo emerging as a prime target.
Reports this morning claimed that Arsenal have submitted an official bid of around £60m to sign the 21-year-old. However, Brighton have rejected the offer and are desperate to keep hold of their star man until the end of this season.
Chelsea are also in the race to sign the Ecuadorian and they have also been working to purchase the midfielder within the final few days of this window, so Arsenal face stiff competition.
Caicedo to Arsenal
According to the report by Daily Mail, Caicedo is eager to take the next step in his career and is ready to force his way out of the club to join Arsenal or Chelsea this January if Brighton don’t allow his departure.
The report also says that having seen their initial £60m offer turned down, Arsenal are ready to return with an improved bid over the coming days. And Brighton could consider selling the 21-year-old if they receive an offer of around £80m.
The defensive midfielder is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, is dynamic enough to press the opposition higher up the field and is excellent in defensive contributions as well. So, he would be a very good acquisition to bolster the engine room if Arsenal can manage to get this deal done.
Arsenal have already lost a transfer battle with Chelsea after seeing priority target Mykhaylo Mudryk join the west London club. Therefore, the Gunners will be desperate to beat their rivals to Caicedo’s signature this month.
It will be interesting to see whether Arsenal will manage to find an agreement with Brighton to sign the talented South American. Adding the Ecuadorian this January will help Arteta to shuffle his midfield options which will help him to maintain their title charge and achieve success in the other cup competitions as well.
