Arsenal ready to formalise interest in signing Tielemans
Arsenal are reportedly plotting a late swoop to sign Leicester City star Youri Tielemans on deadline day, as per the 90min.
The Gunners are reportedly keen on strengthening their midfield during the dying embers of this window. They have heavily been linked with a move for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo and have already made two official bids over the last few days to sign the Ecuadorian.
But, Brighton rejected both offers and Arteta’s side are now reportedly preparing a third proposal of around £75m to lure the 21-year-old to the Emirates Stadium this month. However, the Seagulls are insisting that Caicedo is not for sale and they don’t want to let the midfielder leave late in this window.
So, Arsenal are finding it difficult to persuade Brighton to sell Caicedo. And according to the report by 90min, the north London club could now shift their focus to Tielemans as an alternative option to bolster the midfield on deadline day.
Late deal
The 25-year-old has entered the final six months of his current contract and he has turned down an opportunity to prolong his future at the King Power Stadium beyond this term. So, he is highly likely to leave Brendan Rodgers’ side for free at the end of this season.
90min says that Arsenal want to broker a cut-price deal to sign the Belgian before tomorrow’s deadline and the midfielder is open to the prospect of joining Arteta’s side. However, securing Tielemans’ signature won’t be easy as Leicester are currently in a relegation battle and they don’t want to let the midfielder leave unless the Gunners submit an un-refusable offer.
Following Mohamed Elneny’s injury, Arsenal have been left with a very thin midfield department. So, adding depth to the engine room this winter will be a very good decision and Tielemans would be an excellent acquisition.
It will be interesting to see whether Arsenal will manage to persuade Brighton to sell Caicedo late in this window or if they will be forced to switch their focus to an alternative target such as Tielemans to reinforce the midfield.
Either of them would be a very good signing and would definitely help the Gunners in their quest of winning the title after 19 years this season if the club’s hierarchy can manage to get a deal done before tomorrow.
