Arsenal open talks to sign Real Madrid star Asensio
Arsenal have reportedly made the first move to sign Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio in the summer, as per Football Insider.
The 27-year-old joined Los Blancos back in 2015 from Mallorca for a fee of around £3m. He was deemed one of the world’s best young talents during his early days at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu.
However, he never managed to establish himself as a regular starter for the Spanish giants and on top of that, injury problems hampered his growth massively. As a consequence of that, he failed to reach his full potential.
Asensio has now entered the final six months of his current contract and he hasn’t signed an extension with Carlo Ancelotti’s side yet. So, it is increasingly likely that he will leave the club as a free agent in the summer.
According to the report by Football Insider, Arsenal are looking to take advantage of this situation and sign him for free following the conclusion of this season.
Asensio to Arsenal
The report also says that the north London club have already opened talks with intermediaries over a potential summer deal for the Spaniard. However, securing his signature won’t be easy as they are set to face a stern challenge from Premier League rivals Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Mikel Arteta prefers to sign players who can be deployed in multiple positions and the Real Madrid man will be an ideal signing as Asensio – valued at around £22m by Transfermarkt – can play anywhere across the attacking midfield positions.
The 27-year-old is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for scoring goals from distance and also can deliver excellent crosses from the wide areas.
He would be a useful addition to the Gunners’ squad and signing a player of Asensio’s ability for free would be a great piece of business. So, Arteta’s side should not give up on an opportunity such as this and they should consider making a move for him if he becomes available for free at the end of this season.
It has previously been suggested that Arsenal are looking for a new right winger to support Bukayo Saka and Asensio would be a very good option should he were to move to the Emirates Stadium in the summer.
