Arsenal plot surprising swap deal to sign Juve star Bremer
Arsenal are reportedly contemplating a surprising swap deal, involving Takehiro Tomiyasu, to sign Juventus defender Gleison Bremer, as per the Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb.
The 25-year-old joined the Bianconeri last summer from city rival Torino for a fee of around £36m. The centre-back has been enjoying a promising debut campaign at the Allianz Stadium this term, scoring twice and keeping nine clean sheets in 21 Serie A appearances.
However, according to the report by Calciomercatoweb, despite showcasing his best with Massimiliano Allegri’s side, the defender could be shown the exit door next summer due to the Old Lady of Turin’s financial difficulties. And the recorded Serie A champions have slapped a £44m price tag on his head.
The report further claims that the north London club are keen on making a move for him as Bremer is high on Mikel Arteta’s transfer wishlist and the Gunners want to offer Tomiyasu in a part-exchange deal in order to reduce the transfer fee.
Bremer to Arsenal
Tomiyasu enjoyed a promising debut campaign in the Premier League last term but has failed to replicate the same performances this season and as a consequence of that, he has been struggling to find regular game-time. So, this has made him unsettled at the Emirates Stadium which sparked speculation surrounding his future.
Following the departure of Cedric Soares, Arsenal are currently left with Ben White and the former Bologna star as the right-back options. In order to compete on all fronts, the Emirates club need proper depth in every position so, selling the Japan international wouldn’t be the right decision without bringing in an adequate replacement.
In addition, although he has struggled to impress this season, the fullback has shown glimpses of his talent since arriving at the club during the summer of 2021. Therefore, I believe keeping him at the club and giving him proper game-time to help him develop his career would be the right move going forward.
Meanwhile, adding more firepower in the defence for next season would be a very good decision and Bremer would be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if he were to join the club, however, not at the expense of Tomiyasu.
So, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will formalise their interest in purchasing the Juventus star if an opportunity arises at the end of this season.
