Arsenal predicted line-up against Sporting CP
Arsenal will host Sporting CP in the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday night.
Following the 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture, the tie is nicely poised heading into this game. So, it’s hard to predict who will go through to the quarter-finals, but given the north London club will have the home advantage in this fixture, they are the favourites.
Powerplay sports has the latest news ahead of the game and Mikel Arteta’s side will be full of confidence ahead of this encounter as they are coming into this game off the back of a thumping 3-0 victory over the city rivals Fulham last Sunday.
However, overcoming Ruben Amorim’s side won’t be easy for Arsenal as the Liga Portugal side are currently unbeaten in their last seven fixtures in all competitions. So, the Gunners will have to be at their best to secure their place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League tomorrow.
Expected Arsenal line-up
Arteta is expected to make some changes to the starting eleven that defeated Fulham last weekend. But, Ramsdale could keep hold of his place between the sticks as Matt Turner displayed an unconvincing performance in the reverse fixture last week.
William Saliba should remain at the Gunners’ heart of the defence and alongside the Frenchman, Gabriel Magalhaes could keep hold of his place at the back. So, Jakub Kiwior and Rob Holding might find themselves on the bench once again tomorrow.
Ben White and Oleksandr Zinchenko are likely to be given a breather in this encounter. So, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney could be recalled in the full-back positions for Arsenal.
After remaining an unused substitute last weekend, Jorginho should start at the heart of Arsenal’s midfield, replacing Thomas Partey. Granit Xhaka might keep hold of his place in Arteta’s starting eleven against Sporting and Fabio Vieira is likely to be recalled in the attacking midfield position after impressing in the first leg. So, Martin Odegaard could be among the substitutes with the skipper rested.
Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli are expected to continue as the front three for Arsenal tomorrow. Gabriel Jesus should be among the substitutes having returned to action last Sunday after recovering from a serious knee issue.
And alongside the Brazilian, Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe could find themselves on the bench once again. Eddie Nketiah is likely to miss out owing to injury issues in this encounter along with Mohamed Elneny.
