Arsenal line up surprise swoop for Real Madrid flop Hazard
Arsenal are reportedly looking to make a surprising summer swoop for Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard at the end of this season, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The 32-year-old joined Los Blancos back in 2019 from Chelsea for a fee of around £101m, though hasn’t been able to showcase his best since the switch and as a consequence of that, he has struggled to find regular first-team action at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
The Belgian’s current contract is set to expire at the end of next season and it seems Carlo Ancelotti’s side aren’t willing to offer him a new deal. It has been suggested that Los Blancos are open to selling the ex-Chelsea man in the summer to save his huge wage bill, but the player is reluctant to leave.
According to the report by Fichajes, Arsenal are looking to sign Hazard at the end of this season and Mikel Arteta believes he can bring the best out of the Belgium international if the player moves to the Emirates Stadium.
Hazard to Arsenal
However, the report claims that although the north London club want to purchase the 32-year-old next summer, they don’t want to spend big for him and would only make a move if he becomes available for a reasonable price. And Fichajes says that Real Madrid don’t want a big fee to let the winger leave.
It came as a big surprise that Arsenal are showing an interest in signing Hazard to strengthen their squad for next season as he has already past his prime. In addition, the winger has been struggling with fitness issues and has been accused of being an ill-disciplined player away from the pitch.
So, signing Hazard may not be a wise decision for Mikel Arteta’s side and they would be better off exploring other options to strengthen their attacking department next summer. However, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal will make a concrete approach to sign the Real Madrid outcast at the end of this season.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will be in action in the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 clash against Sporting CP tonight before Sunday’s crucial Premier League encounter versus Crystal Palace. So, two very important games are on the horizon for the Gunners ahead of the International break.
