Arsenal showing active interest in signing Wilfried Gnonto
Arsenal are reportedly showing an active interest in signing Leeds United forward Wilfried Gnonto in the summer, as per the Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 19-year-old joined the Peacocks last summer from FC Zurich for a fee of around £4m. He took no time to settle down in his new surroundings and straightaway established himself as a key first-team player at Elland Road, scoring two goals and notching up three assists in 16 Premier League appearances.
The youngster’s impressive displays in the English top-flight haven’t gone unnoticed as the forward has already attracted the attention of several big Premier League clubs, including Arsenal.
According to the report by Gazzetta dello Sport, Mikel Arteta’s side are showing the ‘most active’ interest in signing the highly talented forward as they believe the youngster possesses the potential to become a world-class attacker in the coming years.
Gnonto to Arsenal
The report also says that Leeds don’t want to part ways with their star man for cheap so could ask at least £31m if they are forced to cash in on him in the summer.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport states that the Gunners will face tough competition from English rivals Manchester City and Chelsea in securing Gnonto’s service as they are also keen on signing the winger.
Gnonto still has four and a half years left in his current contract so Leeds aren’t in any rush to sell their star over the coming months. However, if the Yorkshire club – who are only two points ahead of the relegation zone at the moment – fail to secure their Premier League status for next season then they could be forced to cash in. And in that case, Arsenal would be handed a big chance to sign the player for a cut-price deal next summer.
The youngster has showcased glimpses of his talent during a very short time in the Premier League and he has already secured his place in Italy national team at a tender age. So, purchasing a talent like him would be a great coup for Arsenal if they were to be able to get this deal done at the end of this season.
