Arsenal weighing up summer swoop for Frankfurt star Sow
Arsenal are reportedly ready to intensify their efforts to sign Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Djibril Sow, as per reports via the Mirror.
It is an open secret that Mikel Arteta is looking to strengthen his engine room this summer. The Gunners have been linked with numerous midfielders ahead of the summer window with Sow now emerging as a serious target.
The Switzerland international has been on Arsenal’s radar for a very long time as he was linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium during the January window. But, the Gunners never formalised their interest so a deal didn’t materialise and in the end, the midfielder stayed at Deutsche Bank Park.
However, according to the report by the Mirror, things could be different this time around as Arsenal are planning to accelerate their efforts to sign Sow this summer.
The Swiss is set to enter the final 12 months of his current contract at the end of this season and the newspaper cites Sky Sports Germany as saying that he has made it clear that he is not going to sign an extension. So, Frankfurt are ready to cash-in before his price decreases and they are prepared to accept £13m.
Sow to Arsenal
Therefore, Arsenal are set to be handed a great opportunity to sign Sow in a cut-price deal this summer and the report says talks are already underway with interested clubs about a possible move.
The Mirror says that the Frankfurt star’s compatriot Granit Xhaka could play a pivotal role in persuading the 26-year-old to move to the Emirates Stadium.
Sow has established himself as an integral part of Oliver Glasner’s side’s first eleven over the last few years, helping his side in winning the Europa League title last term.
The Swiss is comfortable playing anywhere across the middle of the park. He can play threading passes between the lines, is excellent in defensive contributions, is dynamic enough to press the opposition higher up the field and also can chip in with some important goals.
So, he would be a solid signing for the North London club and would be able to support both Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka if he were to join this summer. However, it has widely been suggested that Declan Rice is Arsenal’s primary target to strengthen their engine room.
So, Sow could be an alternative option that Mikel Arteta’s side are lining up if they fail to secure the West Ham star’s signature at the end of this season.
