Arsenal plotting summer swoop for Jonathan David
Arsenal are reportedly pondering a move for LOSC Lille forward Jonathan David this summer, as per the Italian outlet Calciomercato.
The 23-year-old has been enjoying a stellar campaign at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy this season, scoring 19 goals and registering four assists in 29 Ligue 1 appearances.
The Canadian’s impressive performances in the French top-flight haven’t gone unnoticed as he has already attracted the attention of several big European clubs with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.
According to the report by Calciomercato, Arsenal are looking to strengthen their attacking department at the end of this season and are showing an interest in signing David. The report also claims that Lille are ready to cash-in on their star man at the end of this season.
However, the Italian outlet says that Arsenal are likely to face tough competition from Serie A giants AC Milan in purchasing David as the Rossoneri are also eyeing a move for him.
David to Arsenal
The Gunners have continuously been linked with forward targets ahead of the summer window – which indicates that they may be actively looking to strengthen their attacking department for next season.
However, Arsenal already have Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah, Leandro Trossard and Falorin Balogun – who is set to return after a successful loan stint at Ligue 1 – in the squad. So, it doesn’t look like they need to invest more in their front line.
But, with the Gunners planning to construct a squad to challenge on all fronts going forward, Perhaps Arteta is looking to sign a proven goal-scorer to provide support to Jesus.
David is quick, strong, can finish off his chances and is efficient in the link-up play. He is a talented forward and possesses high potential so, the forward could be a shrewd signing if the North London club manage to get this deal done this summer.
However, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal decide to formalise their interest in signing David if he eventually leaves Lille at the end of this season. And it has previously been suggested that the Gunners will have to spend at least £45m to sign the Canadian.
