Arsenal ‘chasing’ Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga
Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Celta Vigo midfielder Gabriel Veiga in the upcoming summer window as per the Spanish outlet AS.
The 20-year-old has been attracting a lot of attention from several big European clubs in recent months after displaying glimpses of his talent for Los Celestes in La Liga this term.
Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City have all been linked with a move for the Celta star ahead of the summer window, but along with those, Arsenal have also registered their interest in signing the youngster.
Daily Express cites and translates the print version of AS as saying that Celta are resigned to losing their star man at the end of the season. The report also says that Arsenal have been ‘chasing’ the midfielder and they could opt to sign him this summer to bolster their engine room.
However, the AS claims that securing Veiga’s signature won’t be easy for Arsenal as Manchester United are also planning to sign the midfielder at the end of this season.
Veiga to Arsenal
It has been suggested that Veiga has a £35m release clause in his current contract and Celta don’t want to sell their star man for anything less, so Arsenal would need to spend big to sign the midfielder this summer.
It has previously been reported that Veiga ‘dreams’ of playing for Arsenal and is excited by links with the club as he’s eager to play under Mikel Arteta. Therefore, the Gunners would be in an advantageous position over Man Utd to sign the midfielder if both clubs go head-to-head over a deal this summer.
The 20-year-old is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for scoring goals from distance, has the efficiency to dribble past the opposition defenders in tight areas and also can create chances for the attackers.
Veiga possesses the potential to become a world-class midfielder going forward. So, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they manage to get a deal done this summer.
However, it has widely been suggested that Arsenal have identified Declan Rice as their primary target to strengthen their engine room. So, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal opt to purchase Veiga as well if they manage to sign the West Ham star – who is likely to cost around £75m – this summer.
