Arsenal tipped to sign French fullback Sacha Boey
Former Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has urged the Gunners to sign Galatasaray right-back Sacha Boey this summer.
It is believed that the north London club are exploring the possibility of strengthening their fullback position during the off-season as they have been linked with numerous options ahead of the summer window.
Joao Cancelo, Ridle Baku and Jeremie Frimpong have all been mentioned as potential targets for Arsenal, while it has also been suggested that Boey is also on Mikel Arteta’s wishlist.
The 22-year-old has been enjoying a promising campaign at the Nef Stadyumu this term, making four goal contributions and keeping 10 clean-sheets in 26 Super Lig appearances. The Turkish side are currently at the top of the league and Boey has been playing a pivotal role in their quest of winning the title this term.
Speaking to the Sporting Post, Sagna has heaped praise on Boey and said that he likes the 22-year-old very much. Sagna also claims that the Galatasaray star would be a perfect fit for Arsenal so he wants to see his compatriot playing for the Gunners.
Boey to Arsenal
Sagna said:
“One player I really like is Sacha Boey, the right back at Galatasaray. I think he would fit Arsenal perfectly. As a right back myself, I have to say I think he is amazing, I’m sure he is in the minds of many clubs to sign.”
Boey – valued at around £10m by Transfermarkt – is set to enter the final two years of his current contract. So, Galatasaray could opt to cash-in on the Frenchman this summer to make the most profit out of the youngster’s sale and in that case, Arsenal would be handed an opportunity to sign the defender if they formalise their interest.
The Galatasaray right-back is quick, good in the air, comfortable on the ball, excellent in defensive contributions, can deliver superb crosses from the flanks and also can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas.
Boey possesses the necessary attributes to play in Arteta’s possession-based style of football. With Arsenal seemingly looking to strengthen the right-back position this summer, the Frenchman could be a shrewd signing if they decide to get a deal done this summer.
However, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal opt to make a concrete approach to purchase Boey to reinforce their defence at the end of this season.
