Arsenal plotting summer swoop for Tapsoba and Simakan
Arsenal are reportedly looking to sign Bundesliga duo Edmond Tapsoba and Mohamed Simakan this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Despite enjoying a stellar campaign this term, the Gunners are set to end the season empty-handed. So, it has been reported that the club’s hierarchy will allow Mikel Arteta to spend big this summer to help him strengthen the squad in order to challenge on all fronts next term.
The North London club are reportedly planning to strengthen multiple areas of the squad with defence being one of the positions that Arteta is keen on reinforcing during the off-season.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has reported that Arsenal will remain active in the upcoming transfer window and bolstering the backline is on Arteta’s agenda.
The journalist further claims that Arsenal have been looking at multiple options to strengthen their defence but they have been keeping a close eye on Tapsoba and Simakan’s development ahead of potential summer moves.
Simakan and Tapsoba to Arsenal
Romano said:
“Arsenal will have a big impact in the market in the summer. They are looking for a new centre-back and they sent their scouts multiple times to follow many players in this position. Mohamed Simakan for an example from RB Leipzig but also another player they always have interested in is Tapsoba from Bayer Leverkusen.”
Tapsoba – valued at around £26m by Transfermarkt – still has more than three years left in his current contract. So, Leverkusen are in no rush to let their star man leave this summer and Arsenal will have to offer a lucrative proposal to persuade the German club to sell.
On the other hand, Simakan – valued at around £24m by Transfermarkt – is also tied down into a long-term deal with RB Leipzig. So, Arsenal will have to spend big to lure the Frenchman away from the Bayer Arena if they decide to formalise their interest at the end of this season.
Arsenal’s recent slum following William Saliba’s injury absence has made it clear that the Emirates club need to strengthen their defence to compete in all competitions next season.
Tapsoba and Simakan have showcased glimpses of their talent at the German top-flight in recent seasons so, they could be solid acquisitions for the Gunners.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal opt to sign both Tapsoba and Simakan if they decide to beef up their backline at the end of this season.
