Arsenal eye surprise swoop for Torino star Sanabria
Arsenal are reportedly contemplating a surprise summer swoop for Torino ace Antonio Sanabria, as per the Italian outlet La Repubblica.
The 27-year-old joined Il Torro back in 2021 from Real Betis in a £9m deal. The forward has been enjoying a promising campaign at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino this term, scoring 12 goals and registering three assists in 31 Serie A appearances.
It seems the Gunners have been impressed by the Paraguayan’s performances for Torino this term and therefore, they have registered their interest in signing him to strengthen their attacking department.
According to the report by La Repubblica (via the Express), Arsenal are looking to sign a new striker in the upcoming transfer window and have earmarked Sanabria as a potential target.
The report further claims that the Gunners are ‘keen’ on signing the South American and Torino are ready to let their star man leave if they receive an offer of around £22m.
Sanabria to Arsenal
However, La Repubblica says that purchasing Sanabria won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as AC Milan and Napoli are also plotting a summer swoop for the South American.
Sanabria still has two years left in his current contract so Ivan Juric’s side are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to sell the forward during the off-season.
The Paraguay international is technically sound, good in the air, excellent in link-up play and also can finish off his chances. So, he would add substance to Arsenal’s attack if he were to move to the Emirates Stadium at the end of this season.
However, it has come as a big surprise that Arsenal are interested in signing Sanabria. The 27-year-old has never been a prolific goal-scorer so there is a question mark whether the forward possesses the necessary qualities to help the North London club in achieving their lofty ambition.
So, Arsenal would be better off exploring other options to strengthen the attack in the upcoming transfer window. It is going to be interesting to see whether Arteta’s side decide to make a concrete approach to sign Sanabria at the end of this season.
