Arsenal ‘most interested’ in signing Juventus star Rabiot
Arsenal have reportedly been showing a concrete interest in signing Juventus star Adrien Rabiot this summer, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The 28-year-old’s current contract is set to expire at the end of this season. The Bianconeri have been in contact with the player’s representatives to convince him to sign an extension.
However, despite their best efforts, the record Serie A champions haven’t managed to persuade the midfielder to commit his long-term future at the Allianz Stadium.
So, speculation surrounding Rabiot’s future continues to grow ahead of the summer window and it is increasingly likely that he will leave Juventus for free at the end of this season. It appears Arsenal are looking to take advantage of this situation and sign the midfielder to strengthen their engine room.
The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Frenchman since last winter but Mikel Arteta’s side didn’t formalise their interest so a deal never materialise last time around. But, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to make a concrete approach if Rabiot becomes available this summer.
Rabiot to Arsenal
According to the report by Fichajes, Arsenal are looking to strengthen their midfield department this summer and they have earmarked Rabiot as an alternative option if they fail to purchase their priority target Declan Rice.
The report further claims that Arteta’s side are ‘most interested’ in signing the Juventus star so they could opt to make a move for him during the off-season.
West Ham United have made it clear that they are not going to let Rice leave for anything less than £100m this summer and it has been suggested that the Gunners don’t want to match that figure to sign the midfielder.
In addition, Man Utd have also been eyeing a swoop for the 24-year-old so, it will be difficult for Arsenal to acquire Rice’s service this summer. If Artata’s side fail to purchase the Englishman then Rabiot would be an excellent cheap alternative option to reinforce their midfield.
Rabiot – valued at around £26m by Transfermarkt – is an extremely talented player and can play anywhere across the middle of the park. He is technically sound, dynamic, good in the air, can play threading passes between the lines and also can contribute defensively as well.
The 28-year-old would be an ideal replacement for Granit Xhaka, who has heavily been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium ahead of the summer window, should the France international were to join the club.
It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal decide to formalise their interest in signing Rabiot if he becomes available as a free agent at the end of this season.
