Arsenal plotting summer swoop for Inter star Calhanoglu

Arsenal are reportedly contemplating a summer swoop for Inter Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu, as per the Italian outlet Interlive.it.

The 29-year-old has been enjoying a brilliant campaign at the Giuseppe Meazza this term, helping his side in winning the Coppa Italia and guiding the Nerazzurri to the Champions League final.

It seems the midfielder’s eye-catching performances for Inter haven’t gone unnoticed as he has attracted the attention of the Premier League club, Arsenal.

The Turkish international is set to enter the final year of his current contract and hasn’t signed an extension with the Serie A side yet. So, speculation surrounding his future continues to grow ahead of the summer window.

According to the report by Interlive.it, Inter have been in contact with the player’s representatives regarding an extension and they are edging closer towards agreeing on a new deal.

Calhanoglu to Arsenal

However, despite that, the report claims Arsenal have been showing an interest in signing Calhanoglu and they have identified the Inter star as a potential replacement for Granit Xhaka, who is reportedly set to leave the club during the off-season.

Interlive.it further claims that Arsenal are ready to submit a £31m offer to secure the 29-year-old’s signature and the Nerazzurri could be tempted to accept the proposal. So, it appears the North London club would be able to purchase Calhanoglu for an affordable price if they opt to formalise their interest.

It has widely been suggested that Arsenal are keen on strengthening their midfield department this summer. They have been linked with a host of options over the last few months with Calhanoglu now emerging as a potential target.

Calhanoglu is a versatile midfielder – who can play anywhere across the middle of the park. He is technically sound, dynamic, can play threading passes between the lines, is excellent in taking set-pieces, has an eye for scoring goals from distance and also can contribute defensively as well.

The 29-year-old is an extremely talented player and would certainly strengthen Arsenal’s engine room if they decide to secure his signature.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal opt to make a concrete approach to purchase Calhanoglu in order to reinforce their midfield department this summer.
