Arsenal ‘interested’ in signing Man City star Gundogan
Arsenal have reportedly been showing a concrete interest in signing Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The midfielder’s current contract is set to expire at the end of this month and he is yet to make a final decision whether to sign an extension with the Citizens.
Having won everything with Man City following the Champions League triumph this season, the German could now opt to move away from the Etihad Stadium as a free agent to take a new challenge in his career. It seems Arsenal are looking to take advantage of this situation and sign the 32-year-old to strengthen their engine room.
The Gunners have prioritised bolstering the midfield department this summer and have been linked with numerous options over the last few months with Moises Caicedo and Declan Rice being mentioned as primary targets. But, Gundogan is reportedly on their radar as well.
Writing on Twitter, Romano has reported that Man City are keen on keeping hold of their star man so they have offered him a new one-year deal plus an option to extend the contract for one more season. But Gundogan hasn’t decided to sign the renewal yet and will make his final decision soon.
Gundogan to Arsenal
The journalist further claims that Arsenal have been following the situation closely as they are also ‘interested’ in signing the midfielder. So, they could make a move for him should an opportunity arise.
However, Romano says that securing Gundogan’s signature won’t be easy for the North London club as Barcelona have also been eyeing a swoop for the 32-year-old and they have already submitted a three-year contract offer to him.
Romano wrote:
“Ilkay Gündogan will make a decision on his future soon.
Manchester City offer one year extension plus one more season as option.
Barcelona offer three year deal.
Arsenal are also interested and informed.”
Gundogan – valued at around £21m by Transfermarkt – is deemed one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. So, he would certainly bolster Arsenal’s midfield department should they manage to lure him to the Emirates Stadium in the upcoming transfer window.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal can sign Gundogan this summer should he eventually ends up leaving Man City.
