Arsenal lead race to sign Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby
Arsenal are reportedly the front-runner to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby this summer, as per the French outlet L’Equipe.
It has been suggested that the Gunners are currently busy securing Declan Rice and Kai Havertz’s signature in order to strengthen their engine room. However, it appears they are also working behind the scenes to reinforce their attack in this transfer window.
While citing and translating the print version of L’Equipe, Sport Witness says that Arsenal are interested in purchasing Diaby this summer.
However, the report claims that securing the Frenchman’s signature won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Newcastle United are also plotting a swoop for him. But, L’Equipe states that despite the Magpies’ interest, Arsenal have jumped in front of the queue to sign Diaby in recent weeks.
Diaby to Arsenal
The 23-year-old – valued at around £43m by Transfermarkt – still has two years left in his current contract so Leverkusen are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in over the coming weeks.
Diaby enjoyed a productive campaign last term, scoring nine goals and registering eight assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances. So, it is not a surprise to see that he has been attracting attention from a club of Arsenal’s stature over the last few months.
The Leverkusen star is a left-footed right-winger but he can play on the other flank as well. He is quick, technically sound, can dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas, has the ability to create chances for the attackers and also can finish off his chances.
With Arsenal looking to sign a new right-winger to support Bukayo Saka, Diaby could be an ideal option as he possesses the necessary attributes to play in Mikel Arteta’s possession-based style of football.
Diaby has already showcased glimpses of his talent in the German top-flight over the last few years. So, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal should they manage to sign him in this transfer window.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal opt to formalise their interest in the former PSG man to strengthen their attack this summer.
