Arsenal closing in on a deal to sign Chelsea star Havertz
Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Chelsea star Kai Havertz this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
It has previously been suggested that the Gunners are set to remain busy in this transfer window to strengthen their squad in order to challenge on all fronts from next season.
Mikel Arteta is seemingly looking to bolster several areas of the squad with attack being one of the positions that the Spanish boss is keen on reinforcing.
Several forwards have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few months with Havertz emerging as the number one target in recent times.
It has previously been reported that Arsenal have already opened formal talks with Chelsea to sign the German international after understanding that the player is keen on joining.
Now, according to the report by the Daily Mail, after seeing their opening £50m bid rejected by Chelsea, Arsenal have launched an improved verbal bid to sign the 24-year-old this summer.
Havertz to Arsenal
The report further claims that the North London club have offered a £55m guaranteed fee plus £5m in bonuses to sign Havertz. However, the Daily Mail claims that Chelsea want at least £70m to let their star man leave.
But, writing on Twitter, Romano has claimed that Chelsea are ready to lower their valuation and are prepared to accept a fee of around £65m to sell the versatile forward. So, it seems Arsenal are edging closer towards agreeing on a deal in principle with the West London club to acquire Havertz’s services.
The journalist further claims that Arsenal have already agreed on personal terms with the player and the Daily Mail suggests that the Gunners are set to spend £210,000-a-week in salary to lure the German to the Emirates Stadium.
Romano said:
“Expectation around Kai Havertz deal is to get the agreement done this week — after the international break. Arsenal hope to get green light from Chelsea as five year deal is already agreed with Kai. Indicated fee to get the deal done is around £65m.”
Although Havertz has failed to flourish at Stamford Bridge since joining the club back in 2020, it has been suggested that Arteta is confident of bringing the best out of him if the club’s hierarchy can manage to secure his signature.
So, the 24-year-old could turn out to be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal should they eventually manage to sign him in this transfer window.
