Arsenal receive boost in pursuit of Goncalo Inácio
Arsenal have received a big boost in pursuit of Goncalo Inácio as Sporting CP are ready to lower their asking price to let their star man leave this summer, as per the Portuguese outlet Correio da Manhã.
The Gunners are reportedly planning to strengthen their backline in this transfer window by signing a new centre-back. Jurrien Timber was thought to be their primary target as they are closing in on a deal to sign him after agreeing on a deal in principle with Ajax.
But, it appears the Emirates club are looking to purchase another defensive option before the start of the next season with Inácio emerging as a serious option.
It has previously been suggested that after showcasing his talent in the Portuguese top-flight over the last few years, the 21-year-old is looking to take the next step in his career.
While citing and translating the print version of Correio da Manhã, Sport Witness has reported that Inácio wants to play in the Premier League and Sporting are ready to let him leave in this transfer window.
Inacio to Arsenal
It has previously been reported that the Lions have slapped a £39m[€45m] price tag on their star man’s head and they want the full money to be paid by his potential suitors such as Arsenal in one go if they opt to make a move for him.
However, now the Portuguese outlet claims that Ruben Amorim’s side are prepared to soften their stance and are ready to accept a £30m guaranteed fee plus £9m in add-ons.
So, it appears Arsenal could manage to secure Inácio’s signature for an affordable fee if they decide to formalise their interest. However, it has been suggested that luring the 21-year-old away from the Jose Alvalade Stadium won’t be straightforward for Mikel Arteta’s side as Liverpool are also plotting a swoop for him.
With Arsenal planning to strengthen their defence this summer, Inácio could be a shrewd acquisition if they manage to acquire his service.
However, I believe the North London club don’t need to purchase another centre-back option if they sign Timber over the coming days. So, Arsenal would be better off exploring options to strengthen other areas of the squad after acquiring the Dutchman’s services.
