Arsenal open formal talks to sign Jeremie Frimpong
Arsenal have reportedly opened formal negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Jeremie Frimpong this summer, as per The Telegraph journalist Stefan Bienkowski.
Having narrowly missed out on winning the Premier League title to Manchester City last term, the Gunners have decided to spend big in this transfer window to bridge the gap with the Citizens and challenge on all fronts from next season.
The North London club have already secured Kai Havertz’s signature from Chelsea and are also on the verge of luring Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
It has been suggested that Arsenal won’t stop their spending spree just yet as they are planning to sign two more players before the end of this transfer window.
It appears despite closing in on a deal to sign Timber, Mikel Arteta wants to purchase one more defender before the start of next season as the Gunners have been linked with several names in recent times with Frimpong now emerging as a serious target.
Frimpong to Arsenal
Writing on Twitter, Bienkowski has reported that Arsenal have already opened formal talks with Leverkusen to sign Frimpong but the negotiations are in very early stages and nothing is concrete yet.
The journalist further claims that purchasing Frimpong won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as Leverkusen don’t want to let their star man leave for cheap and want at least £43m[€50m]. So, it remains to be seen whether Arteta’s side decide to meet the German club’s asking price to purchase the defender.

“I’m told discussions between Arsenal and Leverkusen for Jeremie Frimpong are at a very early stage. Nothing concrete yet. The Bundesliga club would not let him go for less than €50m and will likely expect more.”
The 22-year-old enjoyed a stellar campaign last term, scoring eight goals and registering seven assists in 34 Bundesliga appearances. It appears the Dutchman’s excellent displays for Leverkusen have attracted the attention of Arsenal.
Frimpong is an attack-minded right-back. He is quick, technically sound, possesses excellent close control, has the ability to create chances for the attackers and also can finish off his chances.
The youngster is an extremely talented player and possesses high potential. So, he would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him this summer.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to formalise their interest in signing Frimpong in this transfer window.
