Arsenal linked with a move for Galatasaray star Nelsson
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Galatasaray star Victor Nelsson in this transfer window, as per the Turkish outlet Fanatik.
The Gunners have decided to strengthen their backline this summer and are on the verge of signing Jurrien Timber from Ajax Amsterdam. However, it appears the North London club are looking to add another defensive option before the start of next season as they have been linked with a few names in recent times with Nelsson now emerging as a potential target.
According to the report by Fanatik, Nelsson is keen on leaving the Super Lig giants this summer in order to take the next step in his career and Arsenal are ‘insistently’ looking to sign him.
The report further claims that Galatasaray aren’t willing to let their star man leave unless his potential suitors such as Arsenal trigger his £21m[€25m] release clause. So, Arteta’s side could manage to sign the player for an affordable price if they formalise their interest.
Nelsson to Arsenal
However, Fanatik states that purchasing the 24-year-old won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as arch-rival Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on acquiring his service.
Nelsson is a versatile player – who is a centre-back by traits but can also play as a deep-lying midfielder. He is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, good in defensive contributions and also reads the game well.
The Denmark international possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in the Premier League so he would be a solid signing for Arsenal if they decide to sign him over the coming days.
However, I think if Timber joins the club then the North London club won’t need to invest more to beef up their centre-back position in this transfer window.
Therefore, Arsenal would be better off exploring options to strengthen other areas of the squad this summer. It is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually decide to formalise their interest in signing Nelsson to bolster their backline over the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, having already spent over £200m, it remains to be seen how much more money Arteta’s side are prepared to splash to bolster their squad this summer.
