Arsenal make ‘approach’ to sign Sporting star Diomande
Arsenal have reportedly made an ‘approach’ to sign Sporting CP star Ousmane Diomande in this transfer window, as per the Portuguese outlet Record.
After moving to the Jose Alvalade Stadium at the beginning of this year, the 19-year-old enjoyed a promising debut campaign for the Lions last term. So, it appears having been impressed by the Ivorian’s recent displays, several clubs around Europe have decided to register their interest in him, including the Gunners.
While citing and translating the print version of Record, Sport Witness says that Diomande has been attracting a lot of attention in recent times and Arsenal have decided to make an ‘approach’ to sign him in this transfer window.
The report further claims that Sporting want £68m[€80m] – which is his release clause – to sell their star man but they could eventually opt to lower their asking price. Record also says that Arsenal could submit a ‘tempting offer’ soon and that may persuade the Lions to cash-in.
Diomande to Arsenal
Arsenal have been busy in this transfer window and have already spent over £200m by signing Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber. It has been suggested that the Gunners won’t stop their spending spree just yet as they are keen on signing at least two more players in this transfer window.
It has been reported that having already splashed more than £200m, Arsenal will now have to focus on selling some players to raise funds before making moves to sign new players.
Arsenal have decided to strengthen their backline by purchasing Timber this summer and it remains to be seen whether the Emirates club opt to spend big once again to sign another defender in this transfer window.
Diomande, standing at 6ft 2in tall, is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back and also is excellent in defensive contribution.
So, although Diomande would be a great coup for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future, they are currently well-stocked in their defensive department and don’t need to invest more this summer. Therefore, I think the Gunners would be better off exploring options to strengthen other areas of the squad in this transfer window.
