Arsenal ready to reignite interest in Douglas Luiz
Arsenal are reportedly planning to reignite their interest in signing Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz in this transfer window, as per The Sun.
The Gunners have decided to spend big this summer to strengthen their squad in order to challenge on all fronts from next season. They have already splashed more than £200m by signing Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber.
It has been suggested that the North London club won’t stop their transfer businesses just yet as they are keen on purchasing up to two new players before the end of this window.
It is an open secret that Mikel Arteta wants to sign a second midfielder after purchasing Rice and Romeo Lavia has been mentioned as the Spanish boss’ primary target.
However, it has been suggested that Southampton want a fee of around £50m to let their star man leave having signed him last summer and Arsenal aren’t willing to match that figure.
Luiz to Arsenal
So, it appears the North London club have decided to shift focus on alternative targets to strengthen their engine room and have been linked with a few options in recent times with Luiz now emerging as a serious target.
Arsenal hold a long-term interest in the Brazilian as the Emirates club decided to make a move to sign him last summer and even submitted an official proposal to acquire his service.
However, Aston Villa were reluctant to let their star man leave and rejected the offer. They eventually managed to keep hold of him and in the end, the midfielder opted to sign a long-term deal at Villa Park.
However, it appears despite their failed attempt last time around, Arsenal haven’t cooled down their interest in the Brazilian. According to the report by The Sun, Arteta’s side are planning to rekindle their interest in signing the midfielder this summer to reinforce their midfield.
However, the report claims that acquiring Luiz’s services won’t be easy for Arsenal as the arch-rival Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on signing him to replace Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – who has heavily been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.
Luiz – valued at around £35m by Transfermarkt – is a highly talented player and possesses the necessary attributes to play in Arteta’s possession-based style of football. So, he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature in this transfer window.
