Arsenal looking to accelerate efforts to offload players
Arsenal have been busy in this transfer window and have already spent over £200m to strengthen their squad ahead of crucial next season.
They have signed Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber, however, it has been suggested that the Gunners won’t stop their spending spree just yet as Mikel Arteta wants to sign more players before the end of this transfer window.
But, it has been suggested that having already splashed more than £200m this summer, the North London club can’t afford to make moves to sign new faces at the moment. So, they will first have to sell players before making more additions.
According to the report by the Evening Standard, Arsenal are ready to ramp up their efforts to make the clear-out and are hoping to offload up to eight players before the end of this window.
The report further claims that Nicolas Pepe, Folarin Balogun, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Auston Trusty, Cedric Soares, Rob Holding, Nuno Tavares and Alex Runarsson have all been transfer-listed by Arteta. The Spanish boss will be hoping that the departure of these players will bring a sizable amount of money to strengthen the squad more.
Arsenal aiming to sell
Arteta has recently explained that he currently has more than 30 players in his squad at the moment and it is ‘unsustainable’ to work with this many options so he expects some players, who are not in his plan, will be shipped out in this window.
Arteta said:
“We have 30 players here which is unsustainable. Obviously the market is still open, and things can happen – but we are prepared.”
It has previously been suggested that Arsenal wanted to sign a new midfielder as a replacement for Thomas Partey – who was thought to be on the outgoing list. But, Arteta has seemingly decided to change his plan and has now opted to keep the Ghanaian at the club.
Nevertheless, the Emirates club have been linked with several midfielders in recent times with Gremio star Bitello emerging as a serious target. So, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually opt to sign the Brazilian to strengthen their engine room if Partey remains at the club.
On the other hand, Arteta is reportedly planning to sign a new right-winger to support Bukayo Saka. Arsenal have been linked with several options with Mohammed Kudus and Ferran Torres being mentioned as potential targets.
But, Kudus is reportedly edging closer towards joining Chelsea so Arsenal could look to sign Torres to reinforce their attack in this transfer window.
