Arsenal star Albert Sambi Lokonka offered to AS Roma
AS Roma have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Arsenal star Albert Sambi Lokonka in this transfer window, as per the Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 23-year-old joined the Gunners back in 2021 from Anderlecht in a £15m deal. Upon moving to the Emirates Stadium, he showcased glimpses of his talent. But, it quickly became apparent that he isn’t ready enough to perform at the highest level consistently so Mikel Arteta decided to let him go on loan at Crystal Palace last term during the January window.
It seems the Belgian is now surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal are prepared to cash-in on him to raise funds to bolster other areas of the squad.
While citing and translating the print version of Gazzetta dello Sport, Sport Witness says that Roma are looking to sign a new midfielder this summer so they have been handed the opportunity to sign Lokonka.
Arsenal looking to sell Lokonga
But, the report claims that Jose Mourinho’s side have prioritised a move for Renato Sanches and the Giallorossi aren’t planning to sign Lokonga.
Arsenal have been busy in this transfer window and have already signed Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber by spending over £200m.
It has been suggested that Arteta is keen on adding more firepower to his squad before the end of this window but Arsenal can’t afford to spend more at the moment unless they raise funds by selling some players. Several players have been linked with a move away from the club in recent times with Lokonga being among them.
It is sad to see that Lokonga couldn’t make it at Arsenal. He is a talented player and could even manage to resurrect his career going forward. But, in order to achieve that, he needs to play regular first-team football and the midfielder isn’t ready yet to get that at the Emirates Stadium.
So, it would be the right decision for both sides to part ways and the Gunners will be looking to recoup a reasonable amount of money from Lokonga’s sale to strengthen other areas of the squad.
