Arsenal preparing to submit bid to sign David Raya
Arsenal are reportedly preparing to submit an official proposal to sign Brentford star David Raya this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 27-year-old has entered the final year of his current contract and has made it clear that he isn’t going to extend his deal with the Bees as he wants to take a new challenge in his career.
Tottenham initially tried to sign the Spaniard by taking advantage of this situation and even agreed on personal terms with the player. But, Spurs were put off by Brentford’s £40m valuation so they decided to shift focus on alternative targets and opted to sign Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli, instead.
Bayern Munich recently expressed their interest in purchasing Raya but they couldn’t find an agreement with Thomas Frank’s side to broker a deal for the goalkeeper so they are also out of this race.
Meanwhile, writing on Twitter, Romano has reported that Matt Turner has a possibility of leaving the Emirates Stadium this summer with Nottingham Forest eyeing a swoop for him and Arsenal have identified Raya as the priority option to replace the USA international if he leaves.
Raya to Arsenal
The journalist further claims in a different Tweet that Arsenal are looking to accelerate their efforts to sign Raya and are preparing to submit an opening proposal soon.
Romano also states that Arsenal have already held talks with the Brentford star’s representatives to find an agreement regarding the personal terms and the player has expressed his desire to move to the Emirates Stadium so it appears Arsenal are well-placed to acquire his service this summer.
Having enjoyed a promising campaign last term, Aaron Ramsdale has looked shaky during the pre-season games and made some bad errors. So, perhaps, Arteta has got concerned about the Englishman’s current form and has decided to make a move for a new shot-stopper.
It is going to be interesting to see how Mikel Arteta can manage to keep both high-profile keepers happy if he signs Raya and keep Ramsdale at his disposal for next term.
Nevertheless, Raya is a highly talented player and would certainly be a great coup for Arsenal if they sign him in this transfer window.
