Arsenal agree personal terms with Brentford star David Raya
Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with Brentford star David Raya regarding the personal terms ahead of a potential summer move, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have been busy in this transfer window and have already signed Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber by spending more than £200m.
It has been suggested that Mikel Arteta wants to add more firepower to his squad before the end of this window so the North London club won’t stop their spending spree just yet.
It initially looked like the Spanish boss wants to sign options to bolster the engine room and the right-wing position. However, out of nowhere, Arsenal have recently registered a firm interest in signing Raya to reinforce their goalkeeping department.
The 27-year-old has entered the final year of his current contract and hasn’t signed an extension with the Bees yet. It has been suggested that the Brentford star is not willing to commit his long-term future at the Community Stadium as he is keen on taking the next step in his career.
Raya to Arsenal
Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich were reportedly interested in signing him but neither club managed to broker a deal for the Spain international and now it seems Arsenal are the front-runner to purchase him this summer.
Writing on Twitter, Romano has reported that Arsenal have reached an agreement with Raya regarding the personal terms and the player has already made his intention clear to Brentford that he wants to move to the Emirates Stadium.
The report further claims that having managed to persuade the goalkeeper to join the club, Arsenal have opened formal talks with Thomas Frank’s side to sign the Spaniard and the negotiations are ‘expected to accelerate’ over the coming days.
Romano wrote:
“Understand David Raya has reached an agreement in principle with Arsenal on personal terms. Brentford have been informed by player side that he wants to join Arsenal — and talks between clubs over formula/price are now expected to accelerate.”
It has been suggested that the Gunners are ready to let Matt Turner leave the club and have identified Raya as a potential replacement for the USA international if he moves away.
Brentford have made it clear that they are not going to let their star man leave for cheap regardless of whether he leaves for free next summer and want at least £40m. So, Arteta’s side will have to spend big to acquire his service in this transfer window.
Our View
The 27-year-old has already showcased his talent during his time in the Premier League in recent times so he would certainly be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature.
However, it is going to be interesting to see how Arteta uses Aaron Ramsdale and Raya next season to keep both of them happy should the Brentford star eventually moves to the Emirates Stadium in this transfer window.
