Arsenal close to selling Lokonga to Burnley this summer
Arsenal are reportedly close to selling Belgian star Albert Sambi Lokonga to Burnley this summer, as per the transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
After moving to the Emirates Stadium back in 2021 from Anderlecht in a £15m deal, the 23-year-old showcased glimpses of his talent in the Premier League at times.
But, it quickly became apparent that he isn’t ready enough to play regular first-team football for Arsenal and perform at the highest level consistently. So, it appears after purchasing Declan Rice this summer, Mikel Arteta has decided to let Lokonga leave in this transfer window.
AS Roma was previously offered the chance to sign the youngster but they rejected the opportunity and it appears Burnley are now looking to purchase Lokonga this summer.
Tavolieri previously claimed that Burnley have already opened talks with Arsenal to sign the midfielder and they are aiming to acquire Lokonga’s service on an initial loan deal with an option to make the move permanent.
Lokonga to leave
Now writing on Twitter, Tavolieri has reported that Burnley recently held talks with the player’s representatives to sort out the personal terms and they are close to finalising it.
Tavolieri wrote:
“I understand a meeting took place today at BurnleyFC headquarters in order to fix personal terms for Sambi Lokonga. Deal’s getting closer… Last details need to be sorted out. Wait&See!”
Lokonga flourished his career under the guidance of Vincent Kompany during their time together at Anderlecht. So it seems they are now looking to reunite at Burnley and the former Manchester City defender could help resurrect the 23-year-old’s career if the youngster moves to Turf Moor this summer.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have decided to strengthen their squad in this transfer window to bridge the gap with Man City and challenge on all fronts from next season.
The Gunners have already purchased Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber, but it has been suggested that Arteta wants more additions this summer.
However, Arsenal reportedly can’t sign new faces unless they trim down their squad. Several names have been linked with a move away from the club in recent times and it seems Lokonga is the most advanced to leave at the moment.
