Arsenal submit formal offer to sign David Raya
Arsenal have reportedly submitted an opening £23m offer to sign Brentford star David Raya this summer, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The 27-year-old has entered the final year of his current contract and has made it clear that he is not going to sign an extension with Thomas Frank’s side in order to take the next step in his career.
Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich previously expressed their intention of signing him by taking advantage of this situation but, neither club managed to broker a deal for him.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have recently stepped forward and registered a firm interest in the Spaniard to bolster their goalkeeping department after deciding to transfer-list backup shot-stopper, Matt Turner.
It has even been reported that the Gunners have already opened formal talks with Brentford to sign Raya having agreed on a long-term contract with him.
Raya to Brentford
Now, writing on Twitter, Romano has claimed that Arsenal have launched an opening proposal of around £20m in guaranteed fee plus £3m in add-ons to purchase the 27-year-old.
The journalist further claims that Raya is keen on moving to the Emirates Stadium and he has already made his desire known to Brentford.
Romano wrote:
“Arsenal have submitted opening bid for David Raya to Brentford tonight. The proposal is worth £20m fixed fee plus £3m add-ons. Raya told Brentford that he wants the move as personal terms are already agreed.”
It has previously been reported that Brentford don’t want to sell their star man for cheap regardless of whether he leaves for free next summer and want at least £40m. So, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Bees accept Arsenal’s current proposal or stay firm on their valuation.
After winning promotion to the Premier League with Brentford back in 2021, Raya has been displaying consistent performances at the Community Stadium over the last couple of campaigns and as a consequence of that, he has managed to establish himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the English top-flight.
So, the Spain international would definitely be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature in this transfer window. However, having already got Aaron Ramsdale in the squad, it remains to be seen how Mikel Arteta can provide proper game-time to both of them and keep them happy should Raya eventually joins the club this summer.
