Pundit feels Arsenal could sign Moises Caicedo this summer
Former defender turned pundit Kenny Cunningham feels that Arsenal could manage to broker a deal for Brighton and Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo this summer.
The Gunners have been busy in this transfer window to strengthen their squad in order to challenge on all fronts from next season. They have already purchased Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber by spending over £200m.
The North London club are also on the cusp of signing David Raya on a season-long loan from Brentford and there is an option included in this deal to make the move permanent next summer for a fee of around £27m.
It has been suggested that Arsenal won’t stop their spending spree just yet as they are keen on adding more firepower before the end of this window.
Purchasing a second midfielder was thought to be on Mikel Arteta’s agenda this summer. But, it has been reported that the Gunners will only make a move for a new option to bolster their engine room if they sell Thomas Partey for big money.
Caicedo to Arsenal
Speaking on Off the Ball, Cunningham has said that Partey struggled during the business end of last season after returning from an injury issue. So, cashing-in on him and purchasing Caicedo would be the right decision.
The pundit further claims that the African has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. The way they are splashing money in this transfer window if one of those clubs opt to offer a huge proposal to sign the midfielder then that would be great for Arsenal as in that case, they could invest that sum to sign Caicedo.
Cunningham said:
“He was linked to Arsenal and he wanted to make that move to Arsenal the second half of last season, but it didn’t happen. They couldn’t agree a fee.
“Thomas Partey’s situation is an interesting one. I thought he was the one Arsenal player who struggled at the end of last season, he’s had problems with injuries. I just wonder with the money they’re throwing in Saudi Arabia, I saw one link where Partey’s name was mentioned and I just thought Christmas could come early and they could get Partey out and get Caicedo in, for me, that puts them in a far better situation.”
Chelsea have heavily been linked with a move to Caicedo and they have already submitted several formal offers to sign the midfielder. But, Brighton have rejected all offers as none of the West London club’s bids were anywhere close to the Seagulls’ £100m valuation.
It is highly unlikely that Arsenal will spend that much money to sign Caicedo having already invested more than £200m. Therefore, it doesn’t look likely that Arsenal will look to broker a deal for the South American star this summer.
