Arsenal could sign at least one more player this summer
Arsenal could reportedly sign at least one more player this summer, as per the transfer journalist Ben Jacobs.
After narrowly missing out on winning the Premier League title last term, the Gunners have decided to spend big in this transfer window to strengthen their squad in order to bridge the gap with Manchester City.
They have purchased Kai Havertz Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber by spending over £200m and are also on the verge of signing David Raya having already agreed on a season-long loan deal with Brentford.
However, speaking to GiveMeSport, Jacobs has reported that after saving money by purchasing Raya on loan, Arsenal have been handed the opportunity to make more signings this summer.
The journalist further claims that Mikel Arteta is planning to add more firepower to his squad and purchasing a new left-back is on his agenda if the Gunners eventually manage to sell Kieran Tierney.
Arsenal to continue spending spree
Jacobs also says that Arsenal could also look to sign a new midfielder but that will only happen if they sell any of their current options.
Jacobs said:
“The fact that Turner went for a fee and Raya is coming in for only a loan fee upfront that is smaller than that fee does give Arsenal a little bit of flexibility.
“But if they’re to strengthen in midfield, it will be because we get an exit first. If they’re to strengthen at left-back, it will perhaps be because Kieran Tierney departs, and that situation is still unclear.
“Arsenal have not exactly got a burning hole in their pocket just to spend for the sake of spending. They’ve already had an excellent and thorough window, so the last few weeks are really only about buying if they desperately need to or outgoings allow.”
Arsenal aren’t seemingly looking to sell any of their midfielders at the moment so it’s unlikely that they will make a move for a new option to reinforce their engine room.
However, Arteta has decided to transfer-list Tierney and he has heavily been linked with a move away from the club. Real Sociedad are reportedly looking to purchase him this summer and along with the Spanish side, Newcastle United are also seemingly interested in acquiring his service.
Therefore, Arsenal are likely to cash-in on the Scotsman and it is going to be interesting to see who Arteta will sign to replace Tierney if the North London club eventually sell him.
