Arsenal contemplating swoop for Galatasaray star Nelsson
Arsenal are reportedly contemplating a swoop for Galatasaray star Victor Nelsson in this transfer window, as per the transfer journalist Rudy Galetti.
Following Jurrien Timber’s knee issue, the Gunners are seemingly exploring the possibility of signing a new defender to replace the Dutchman.
Several names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent days with Marc Guehi, Perr Schuurs and Kyle Walker-Peters being among them, but it appears the North London club have now registered their interest in signing Nelsson as well.
Writing on Twitter, Galetti has reported that Arsenal have shortlisted four defensive options to replace Timber with Nelsson being one of them.
The journalist further claims that the Denmark international has a £21m[€25m] release clause included in his current contract so Arsenal can sign him for an affordable fee should they formalise their interest.
Nelsson to Arsenal
Galetti wrote:
“After injury of Timber, Arsenal are looking for a new centre-back. In the Arsenal’s list there are 4 options: one of them is Victor Nelsson. The Galatasaray player has a release clause of €25m.”
It has previously been reported that Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in signing him but they haven’t formalised their interest yet. So, Arsenal could get a clear pathway to sign the 24-year-old this summer if the Lilywhites don’t make a move soon.
Nelsson has burst onto the scene in recent times after displaying promising performances for Galatasaray last season, keeping 15 clean-sheets in 33 league appearances, helping his side in winning the Super Lig title.
So, it appears after being impressed by his performances in the Turkish top-flight, Arsenal have decided to register their interest in signing him to bolster their backline.
Nelsson, standing at 6ft 1in tall, possesses the recovery pace to play in the high defensive line, is strong, good in the air, can play out from the back and is excellent in defensive contributions. So, he possesses the necessary attributes to play and flourish in the Premier League.
Therefore, the Denmark international could turn out to be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they eventually opt to acquire his service in this transfer window.
