Arteta delivers a concerning Thomas Partey injury update
Mikel Arteta has delivered a concerning injury update on Thomas Partey following Arsenal’s 3-1 victory over Man Utd.
Reports already started to emerge before yesterday’s game that the Ghanaian had sustained an injury that will keep him out of the crunch clash against the Red Devils.
Now, after the game during an interview with Football London, when asked what’s the issue with Partey, Arteta stated that Partey has seemingly picked up a groin injury in training but his issue could also be hamstring.
The Gunners boss further claims that Partey’s injury doesn’t look good and he is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.
Arteta said:
“I don’t know. Unfortunately, he got injured in training. It doesn’t look good. I believe he’ll be out for weeks.”
When asked whether it’s a hamstring issue or not, the Spaniard said:
“I think it’s more a groin, but it could be something in between both.”
Partey picks up yet another injury
After joining the club back in 2020 in a £43m deal, Partey has been struggling with injury problems over the last few years. Arsenal decided to purchase Jorginho from Chelsea last January to deputise for the Ghanaian, but the Gunners didn’t look the same without the African last term. So, Arteta has decided to spend big and sign Declan Rice from West Ham United this summer.
Therefore, Arsenal are’t expected to feel the African’s void this season like they used to endure over the last few years in situations like this. But, given the Champions League is set to commence after the international break and the Gunners will have to play twice every week, they need depth in their squad to perform at their best in every competition and without Partey pressure will be on Rice to play every game.
The North Londoners will be hoping that the 24-year-old will be able to live up to the occasion and fill Partey’s void seamlessly.
Meanwhile, after defeating Man Utd, the Gunners will travel to Goodison Park to face off against a struggling Everton side after the international break before facing off versus PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. So, a busy run of fixtures lies ahead for Arsenal.
