Fenerbahce preparing bid to sign Arsenal star Jorginho
Fenerbahce are reportedly preparing to submit an official proposal to sign Arsenal star Jorginho, as per the Turkish outlet Takvim.
The Premier League transfer window has already been slammed shut, but the Turkish window is still open and they can do business until September 15th.
According to the report by Takvim, Fenerbahce are preparing to submit a formal £17m proposal to sign Jorginho and the excitement has already started to build among the Yellow-Navy blues fans ahead of the Italian’s potential move.
However, the midfielder’s agent has recently made it clear that his client is currently completely focused on playing for Arsenal and isn’t planning to move away.
The Gunners opted to sign Jorginho back in January from Chelsea in a £12m deal to support Thomas Partey last term. However, although the midfielder showcased glimpses of his talent at times, he never managed to win the trust of Mikel Arteta as a result, he struggled to find regular game-time at the Emirates Stadium.
Jorginho could leave
So, Arsenal have decided to spend big this summer and sign Declan Rice to bolster their engine room. However, after Partey’s recent injury issue, Arteta will only be left with the Englishman as the holding midfielder option if they let Jorginho leave should Fenerbahce submit the proposal.
Jorginho has found himself on the periphery in the first few games of this season, playing only 27 minutes. So, the 31-year-old could be tempted to move away in search of regular first-team football.
However, with a busy schedule set to commence for Arsenal after the international break, Arteta needs proper squad depth to keep his players fresh and perform at the highest level in every competition.
So, I think keeping Jorginho would be the right decision. Therefore, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to let Jorginho leave the club if they receive a formal offer from Fenerbahce over the coming days.
Meanwhile, after a brilliant victory against Man Utd, Arsenal are still unbeaten this season, accumulating 10 points from four Premier League encounters. The North Londoners will be hoping that they will be able to continue their winning run when they travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton after the international break.
