Arsenal interested in signing Atletico Madrid star Molina

By on September 11, 2023

Arsenal are reportedly contemplating a swoop for Atletico Madrid star Nahuel Molina in the upcoming transfer window, as per a recent report.

After moving to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano last summer, the right-back has established himself as a key member of Diego Simeone’s first eleven, scoring four goals and keeping nine clean-sheets in 33 La Liga appearances last term.

The Argentinian played a pivotal role in his nation’s World Cup triumph last year in Qatar and it appears the South American’s recent performances for his club and country have attracted the attention of Arsenal.

The North London club were reportedly planning to sign a new defender as a replacement for new signing Jurrien Timber – who has been ruled out for the majority of this season after sustaining a serious knee issue on his Premier League debut.

But, despite being linked with numerous options this summer, they didn’t make a move for anyone before the deadline. However, things could change in January and it seems they are lining up Molina as a potential option.

According to a recent report in Spain, (via the Birmingham Mail), Arsenal are interested in signing Molina so they could opt to make a concrete approach in the upcoming transfer window.

The report further claims that the defender has a £77m release clause included in his current contract so Arsenal will have to break the bank to secure his signature.

However, the Birmingham Mail states that purchasing Molina won’t be straightforward for the North London club as Manchester City and Aston Villa are also eyeing a swoop for him.

Molina still has four years left in his current contract so Simeone’s side are in no rush to let their star man leave. Therefore, it appears Arsenal will have to trigger the 25-year-old’s £77m release clause should they formalise their interest in the winter.

Molina is a talented player and has already showcased his qualities at the highest level so he would be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they sign him in the upcoming transfer window.

However, spending the reported £77m to sign Molina wouldn’t be a wise decision so Arsenal would be better off exploring other options should Atletico Madrid don’t lower their valuation.
