Arsenal planning to make ‘bold move’ to sign Zubimendi
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a bold move to sign Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi in January, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Spaniard has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last few transfer windows, however, the Gunners haven’t decided to make a concrete approach to sign him yet.
But, according to the report by Fichajes, things would be different this time around as Arsenal could make a ‘bold move’ to sign him in January after identifying him as the primary target to strengthen their engine room.
The report further claims that Mikel Arteta had other priorities in recent windows so the North London club didn’t make swoop for Zubimendi. But they have purchased their key targets and will now focus on luring the Spain international to the Emirates Stadium.
Fichajes also states that the 24-year-old has a £51m release clause included in his current contract and Arsenal are prepared to trigger it to secure his signature.
Zubimendi to Arsenal
Arsenal were seemingly looking to sign a second midfielder this summer after purchasing Declan Rice from West Ham United. Several players were mentioned as potential targets with Zubimendi being among them.
However, Arteta eventually opted to cool down his interest in signing another midfielder after deciding to keep hold of Thomas Partey. But, I think it would be better to let him leave due to his persistent injury problems and it has been reported that Juventus are planning to acquire his service.
If they cash-in on Partey then they will have to sign a new midfielder to replace him and Zubimendi would be an ideal option. The 24-year-old is good in the air, excellent in defensive contributions and also can link-up the play from defence to attack.
Zubimendi has already showcased his talent in the Spanish top-flight over the last few years and the North Londoners will be hoping that he will be able to replicate the same performance in the Premier League should Arsenal sign him in January.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arteta’s side eventually opt to make a concrete approach to purchase him over the coming months to bolster their midfield department.
