Arsenal plotting swoop for Man City star Kalvin Phillips
Arsenal are reportedly planning to make a swoop for Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After moving to the Etihad Stadium from Leeds United in a £45m deal last summer, the midfielder has been struggling to find regular game-time for the Citizens in recent seasons.
However, despite the 27-year-old’s recent struggles in club football, the Englishman has continuously been getting picked for his national team squad and Phillips has done well at the international level.
According to the report by Fichajes, Arsenal are looking to sign a new midfielder to replace Jorginho in the upcoming window and have identified Phillips as a serious target with the hope that he will be able to bring his Leeds form to the Emirates Stadium if they sign him.
The report further claims that the 27-year-old could be open to joining Arsenal if he gets the assurance of regular playing time. So, the Gunners can manage to secure his signature should they formalise their interest.
Phillips to Arsenal
Fichajes also says that Man City won’t be able to recoup the money that they paid for Phillips if they sell him over the coming months due to his recent struggles. So, Arsenal can purchase the England international in a cut-price deal.
Phillips likes to play as a defensive midfielder but he can also be deployed in the box-to-box role. He is strong, dynamic, technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
Although the midfielder has been struggling to find playing time for the Citizens, he is a talented player and could be a shrewd signing for Arsenal if they opt to purchase him over the coming months.
However, it has been suggested that Man City don’t want to sell any more players to Arsenal – who has now established themselves as the title rival of Guardiola’s side in recent times – having already sold Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer.
So, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal can manage to persuade Man City to let their star man move to the Emirates Stadium should they opt to make a concrete approach in the upcoming transfer window.
