Arsenal looking to accelerate efforts to sign Ivan Toney
Arsenal are reportedly planning to accelerate their efforts to sign Brentford star Ivan Toney in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Mirror.
Although the Gunners currently have Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in their squad, it seems Mikel isn’t happy with his current centre-forward options and is looking to sign a proven goal-scorer to bolster the frontline.
Several players have been mentioned as potential targets for the North London club in recent times with Dusan Vlahovic and Victor Osimhen being among them, but it appears Toney is their primary option.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank recently stated that they are a selling club and wouldn’t stop Toney from moving away if his potential suitors such as Arsenal submit a big offer in the upcoming window. On the other hand, it has been reported that Toney is keen on taking the next step in his career so he has recently changed his agent.
Toney to Arsenal
It seems Arsenal are planning to take advantage of this situation and sign the 27-year-old. Now, according to the report by the Mirror, Arsenal are looking to step up their efforts to sign Toney ahead of the January window to strengthen their frontline.
The report further claims that Brentford are ready to let their star man leave if they receive an offer of around £60m. But, they have warned that they aren’t going to sell the striker should his potential suitors such as the Gunners don’t match the asking price. Therefore, Arteta’s side will have to spend big to acquire his service in the upcoming window.
However, the Mirror states that securing the Englishman’s signature won’t be straightforward for Arsenal as Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Manchester United are also plotting a swoop for him.
After enjoying a stellar campaign for Brentford last term, scoring 20 goals and registering four assists in 33 league appearances, the striker caught the attention of several big English clubs.
However, following his eight-month suspension due to breaching betting rules, those teams opted to cool down their interest in signing him this summer. But, given the forward will be eligible to play again from January next year, clubs are now planning to make a move for him in the winter window.
Toney is an extremely talented striker and he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to sign him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether they eventually opt to formalise their interest in signing him in January.
