Confirmed line-ups: Brentford vs Arsenal: 19y/o makes debut for Gunners, Havertz also starts
Arsenal are at the Gtech Community Stadium to take on Brentford in the 3rd round of the Carabao Cup tonight.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has taken the opportunity to rest some of his key men. Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has lost his place to David Raya in the Premier League recently. However, Raya drops out tonight with Ramsdale given a recall between the sticks.
Takehiro Tomiyasu is given a call-up to start in defence and the Japanese international will be looking to impress after losing his first team place. Jacub Kiwior is also recalled to start tonight alongside Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White in defence. William Saliba is given the night off while Oleksandr Zinchenko drops to the bench.
Arsenal are without Declan Rice as the midfielder suffered a back injury against Tottenham at the weekend. He joins Thomas Partey on the sidelines with the Ghana international still recovering from a groin injury. Jorginho starts in the middle of the park and he’ll be looking to make-up for his woeful error in the NLD on Sunday.
Kai Havertz gets another start in midfield while Emile Smith Rowe is also handed a rare run out. Let’s hope he can remind Arteta what he’s capable of as it’s been a disastrous year for Smith Rowe.
Bukayo Saka is another player ruled out tonight after he picked up a knock against Spurs. Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are also still out so Arsenal have limited options on the wings. Reiss Nelson is given a start while 19-year-old Charles Sagoe Jr is given his full debut.
Eddie Nketiah starts up front for Arsenal so Gabriel Jesus is named on the bench alongside Martin Odegaard.
These are the line-ups for the game:
Arsenal
Ramsdale; Tomiyasu, White, Gabriel, Kiwior; Jorginho, Smith Rowe, Havertz; Nelson, Nketiah, Sagoe Jr
Subs: Hein, Cedric, Sweet, Walters, Zinchenko, Elneny, Ødegaard, Cozier-Duberry, Jesus.
Brentford
Flekken; Roerslev, Collins, Zanka, Pinnock, Hickey; Onyeka, Norgaard, Janelt; Mbeumo, Wissa
Subs: Strakosha, Balcombe, Jensen, Ghoddos, Ajer, Lewis-Potter, Yarmoliuk, Olakigbe, Brierley
