Arsenal contemplating swoop for Miguel Gutiérrez
Arsenal are reportedly contemplating a swoop for Girona star Miguel Gutiérrez in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Spanish outlet Fichajes.
After coming through the Real Madrid youth system, the 22-year-old moved to the Estadi Montilivi ahead of last season in a £3m deal. Upon joining the Blanquivermells, the Spaniard enjoyed a promising debut campaign last term before starting the new campaign brilliantly this season.
Girona have entered the October international break second in La Liga, sitting only two points behind the league leaders Real Madrid and Gutierrez has played a key role in his team’s promising start to this term.
So, it appears Gutierrez’s recent excellent displays haven’t gone unnoticed as he has already started to attract the attention of big clubs around Europe with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.
According to the report by Fichajes, Arsenal are planning to sign a new young left-back to provide competition for Oleksandr Zinchenko and have identified Gutierrez as a serious option.
Gutierrez to Arsenal
However, the report claims that Girona have no intention of selling their star man just yet but they could change their stance if they receive a ‘significant’ offer from the defender’s potential suitors such as the North London club. So, Mikel Arteta’s side can purchase the Spaniard should they opt to make a concrete approach to sign him next year.
After letting Kieran Tierney leave the club, Arsenal are currently without a natural left-back other than Zinchenko. Arteta has used Jakub Kiwior and Takehiro Tomiyasu in that position at times to manage the Ukrainian’s game-time, but neither of them is a natural left-back.
So, purchasing a new left-sided fullback would be the right decision and Gutierrez could be a shrewd signing. He is quick, technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, is excellent at delivering crosses from the wide areas, has the ability to dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas and is also efficient in defensive contributions.
Therefore, the Girona star possesses the necessary attributes to play in Arteta’s system so he could be a solid acquisition for Arsenal with a view to the long-term future if they acquire his service.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to purchase Gutierrez next year to reinforce their backline.
