Arsenal to step up efforts to sign Pedro Neto in January
Arsenal are reportedly planning to step up their efforts to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers star Pedro Neto in January, as per Football Transfers.
After strengthening other positions in the summer window, the Gunners are looking to reinforce the attack in winter. It has been suggested that Mikel Arteta wants to sign a new winger to support Bukayo Saka and purchasing a new centre-forward is also on the Spanish boss’ agenda.
Several players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium with Neto being mentioned as the primary target to bolster the flank, while Ivan Toney is seemingly their number-one option to beef up their centre-forward position.
However, according to the report by Football Transfers, having already splashed over £200m last summer, Arsenal’s January budget has been restricted at the moment. Funds are likely to be available to make only one marquee signing unless Arteta opts to generate money by making a big sale.
The report further claims that if one signing can be made in winter then Arteta wants to purchase Neto over Toney as the Spanish boss is keen on adding depth to the right-wing position and is a long-term ‘admirer’ of the Wolves star.
Neto to Arsenal
Football Transfers also states that Arsenal value Neto at around £40m but Wolves don’t want to let their star man leave for anything less than £70m. So, the Gunners will have to break the bank to acquire the Portuguese’s service.
The forward still has four years left in his current contract so Wolves are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in.
The 23-year-old has returned to his best this season after recovering from injury issues. He has established himself as a talismanic figure for the Wolves this term and has also secured his place in the Portugal first-team squad in recent times.
Neto is an extremely talented player and possesses the potential to become a top-class winger going forward. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature next year.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually manage to secure his signature in the upcoming transfer window to reinforce their frontline.
