Pundit heaps praise on Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu
Ex-Gunner turned pundit Ian Wright has heaped praise on Arsenal star Takehiro Tomiyasu following a solid performance against Sevilla in midweek.
After moving to the Emirates Stadium back in 2021 from Bologna in a £16m deal, the Japanese enjoyed a promising debut campaign for the Gunners.
However, the defender has struggled to find regular game-time for the North London club in recent times owing to injury issues. Nevertheless, Tomiyasu has looked good whenever he has been given the opportunity to start and he did exactly that versus Sevilla in the Champions League midweek.
Speaking on the Wright’s House podcast, Wright was full of praise for Tomiyasu and said that he is always happy to see the Japanese starting for Arsenal as the 24-year-old is efficient in defending and it’s extremely difficult to dribble past him.

The pundit further states that Tomiyasu is a very dependable player and he possesses the necessary attributes to flourish in the Premier League. Wright also says that the Japanese is a consistent performer so he is an extremely valuable asset for the North London club.
Wright said:
“I’m always happy to see Tomiyasu start because nothing is getting past him. He’s so reliable, his strength, positional awareness, when he gets on the ball he has no problem passing the ball progressing it. It’s very rare you see anyone get past him, he’s just a dependable player, 8/10 every week.”
Tomiyasu is a versatile player as he can play anywhere across the backline. He is quick, strong, technically sound, comfortable playing out from the back, good in the air, excellent in defensive contributions and also reads the game well.
So, it is apparent that Arsenal have done excellent business by acquiring the service of Tomiyasu for a fee of just £16m. The Emirates faithful will be hoping that Tomiyasu will be able to continue his development and showcase his best for Arsenal over the coming years.
Meanwhile, after drawing against Chelsea, Arsenal will be keen on returning to winning ways in the Premier League this weekend when they welcome Sheffield United at the Emirates Stadium.
The Blades have endured a dire start to this season so it is expected that Arsenal will be able to win this game comfortably and continue their unbeaten run in the league this term.
