Arsenal remain interested in signing Douglas Luiz
Arsenal reportedly remain interested in signing Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz in the upcoming transfer window, as per Football Insider.
The Gunners expressed their intention to purchase the South American during the summer of 2022 to reinforce their engine room. However, the Villans were adamant that the player wasn’t for sale and they eventually managed to keep hold of their star man.
After failing to bolster their midfield department last year, Arsenal have decided to do that this summer by signing Declan Rice in a whooping £105m deal. However, it was reported that although Mikel Arteta’s side signed the 24-year-old, they were looking to purchase another midfield option to add depth to their midfield department.
Several names were mentioned as potential targets, but they eventually opted not to make a move for anyone before the deadline.
However, it has been suggested that Arsenal are looking to sign a new midfielder as a long-term successor to Thomas Partey and Jorginho. Aurelien Tchouameni has been suggested as a serious option but Luiz is reportedly on their radar as well.
Luiz to Arsenal
According to the report by Football Insider, Arsenal have been keeping a close eye on the development of the Villa star ahead of a potential move next year.
The report further claims that the Gunners could look to sign Luiz next summer to beef up their engine room and Arteta is a ‘long-term admirer’ of the South American.
The midfielder – valued at around £48m by Transfermarkt – still has three years left in his current contract so Aston Villa are in a strong position to demand a big fee if they are forced to cash-in. Therefore, Arsenal will have to spend big to lure the Brazilian to the Emirates Stadium next year should they opt to make a concrete approach.
Luiz can play multiple positions across the middle of the park. He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines, has an eye for long-range passing, is excellent in taking set-pieces and also is efficient in defensive contributions.
The 25-year-old is a talented player and possesses high potential so he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to formalise their interest in signing him in the upcoming transfer window.
