Arsenal interested in signing Galatasaray star Nelsson
Arsenal are reportedly contemplating a swoop for Galatasaray star Victor Nelsson in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Turkish outlet Aksam.
After narrowly missing out on winning the league title following the injury to William Saliba last term, the Gunners decided to add depth to their backline by signing a new defender in the last transfer window.
Jurrien Timber has been purchased in a £40m deal from Ajax Amsterdam, but he has been ruled out for the majority of this season having sustained a serious knee issue in his Premier League debut against Nottingham Forest.
So, it seems Arsenal are now planning to sign a new defender in January to reinforce their defence and challenge on all fronts this term. According to the report by Aksam, the North London club are interested in purchasing Nelsson in the upcoming transfer window and the defender is keen on leaving Galatasaray to take the next step in his career.
The report further claims that Cimbom could demand a fee of around £17m to sell their star man so Arsenal could manage to purchase him for a bargain deal if they formalise their interest.
Nelsson to Arsenal
However, Aksam says that Tottenham Hotspur and Ajax Amsterdam are also eyeing a swoop for the Denmark international so Arsenal are set to face tough competition from their rivals in getting any potential deal done for him.
Nelsson is quick, strong, good in the air, comfortable playing out from the back, efficient in defensive contributions and also reads the game well. So, he could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they decide to secure his signature in January.
However, it has been suggested that Arsenal are prioritising to sign a new striker in the upcoming transfer window and it is expected that they will have to spend big to purchase a new centre-forward.
It has been reported that the Gunners’ winter budget has been restricted due to FFP regulations having already spent over £200m last summer.
So, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal can afford to sign a new defender as well if they decide to strengthen their attack by purchasing a new striker in January.
