Arsenal ‘advancing’ to sign Royal Antwerp star Vermeeren

By on November 2, 2023

Arsenal are reportedly ‘advancing’ to sign Royal Antwerp star Arthur Vermeeren in the upcoming transfer window, as per the Spanish outlet Sport.

After making his senior debut for the Belgian side last year, the 18-year-old has now managed to establish himself as one of the key players of his side’s starting eleven this season.

The youngster’s impressive displays for Royal Antwerp have already attracted the attention of several big clubs around Europe with Arsenal among those to have registered their interest.

It has recently been reported that Mikel Arteta is planning to sign a new holding midfielder to deploy Declan Rice in the box-to-box role and unlock his attacking potential.

A few names have been mentioned as potential targets for the North London club with Vermeeren emerging as a serious option.

According to the report by Sport, Arsenal are ‘advancing’ to sign the Belgian international next year and the player could cost a fee of around £13m.

Vermeeren to Arsenal

The report further claims that Vermeeren is highly likely to move away from Royal Antwerp to take the next step in his career. But, it’s not sure whether he will leave in January or next summer. So, this is a big boost for Arsenal to sign the 18-year-old.

Sport also states that Vermeeren possesses the necessary qualities to flourish at the highest level and he is a player – who is very similar to Sergio Busquets. Therefore, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they eventually manage to secure his signature in the upcoming transfer window.

However, the midfielder is still very young and needs time to develop his career. So, the Emirates faithful should keep their patience and give the youngster time if he were to sign for the North London club next year.

Meanwhile, although Arsenal have been enjoying a stellar start to this season in the Premier League, they have now been knocked out of the Carabao Cup after losing to West Ham United last night.

So, they will be desperate to return to winning ways when they travel to St. James’ Park to take on Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend.
