Arsenal could beat Liverpool in the race to sign Andre
Arsenal could reportedly beat Liverpool in the race to sign Fluminense star Andre Trindade in the January window, as per the transfer insider Dean Jones.
The Gunners have seemingly been planning to sign a new defensive midfielder next year to deploy Declan Rice in the box-to-box role. Several players have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks with Douglas Luiz, Martin Zubimendi and Arthur Vermeeren being among them. But, Andre is reportedly on their radar as well.
It has previously been reported that the Gunners sent scouts to watch him in action in the Copa Libertadores final – where the midfielder helped his side win the tournament by beating Boca Juniors.
Now, speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has reported that Arsenal have been planning to replace Thomas Partey for a while and they could look to do that in the winter window.
The journalist further claims that the North London club have identified Andre as a serious target and they could manage to secure his signature by beating Liverpool in this race. The transfer insider also says that Edu’s Brazilian connection could help the Emirates club in acquiring the 22-year-old’s service and the player is keen on playing in the Premier League.
Jones says that Arsenal are more likely to sign Andre in January over Zubimendi or Luiz as the Fluminense star is set to leave the Brazilian side at the end of this year.
Andre to Arsenal
Jones said:
“The Partey situation, in terms of having to replace him, has been in the background at Arsenal for a year now, so the club definitely have targets identified at varying levels of cost that they can turn to.
“Andre is an interesting one here because there definitely has been attention dedicated to his situation and if he is going to make a move, it makes sense that it will be in January because of the way the calendar works in Brazilian football.
“The player is keen to move to England and at a time when Liverpool are wavering over his valuation, this could be a great moment to strike as the other main competition will be Fulham. Fluminense are willing to sell and given the player’s profile and expectations and growth potential, I think he would be a decent fit for what Arteta is building towards.
“There is the obvious link of Edu that connects Arsenal and the Brazilian, so that could prove helpful and he certainly seems more attainable than the likes of Martin Zubimendi and Douglas Luiz in the January window.”
It has been suggested that Fluminense could sell their star man if they receive an offer of around £30m. So, the Gunners can manage to purchase him for a reasonable fee if they formalise their interest.
Andre is deemed one of the best midfielders in Brazil’s top-flight so he could be a great coup for Arsenal if they eventually manage to secure his signature in the January window.
