Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a ‘fan’ of Ruben Neves
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is a fan of Al-Hilal star Ruben Neves and the Spaniard has urged the Gunners to secure his signature, as per the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
After showcasing his talent for Wolverhampton Wanderers over the past few years, the midfielder seemingly attracted the attention of several big Premier League clubs. He was even mentioned as a potential target for Arsenal as well, however, no top English clubs opted to make a swoop for him.
So, the Portuguese eventually decided to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal at the start of this season. However, despite recently moving to the Middle East, the midfielder has been linked with a return to the Premier League in recent times.
Several clubs have been mentioned as potential suitors for Neves with Newcastle United being among them. But, Arsenal are also reportedly interested in signing him.
Now, speaking on The Debrief Pod, Romano has reported that Arteta is a big fan of Neves and he previously recommended Arsenal hierarchy to sign him. However, the club didn’t make a move for the Portuguese.
Neves to Arsenal
The journalist also claims that due to Arteta, Arsenal have continuously been getting linked with Neves, however, the Gunners haven’t made a concrete approach to acquire his service yet.
Romano said:
“I think we have these links because of Mikel Arteta. From what I’m told, Mikel Arteta has always been a fan of Ruben Neves, he’s always appreciated the player since he was at Wolves, he was always one of the midfielders that he has indicated to the directors and to Edu in meetings over the past two or three years, discussing midfielders, the name of Ruben Neves has always been around, but at the moment there are no negotiations.”
With Arsenal reportedly looking to sign a new defensive midfielder to replace Thomas Partey, Neves could be a shrewd option as he is a Premier League proven midfielder.
However, it has recently been reported that Neves isn’t going to leave in January. It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal’s hierarchy eventually opt to make a concrete approach to sign Neves if he leaves AL-Hilal next summer.
Meanwhile, Arsenal entered the international break after beating Burnley in the Premier League and they will be hoping to keep their winning run going when they travel to Gtech Community Stadium to face off against Brentford next weekend.
