Arsenal think Luiz is an ideal option to replace Partey
Arsenal reportedly think Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz is the ideal option to replace Thomas Partey, as per the transfer journalist Chris Wheatley.
It has widely been suggested that the Gunners have been exploring the market to sign a new midfielder as a potential replacement for the Ghanaian – who has been struggling with injury problems over the last few years.
Several names have emerged as possible targets for the North London club with Andre Trindade, Arthur Vermeeren and Ruben Neves being among them, but Luiz is reportedly on their radar as well.
Arsenal hold a long-term interest in the Brazilian as they formalise their interest in signing him during the summer of 2022. They even reportedly submitted an official proposal to acquire his service, however, the Villans were reluctant to let their star man leave so a deal never came to fruition.
Now, speaking on ShotsTV, Wheatley has reported that Arsenal certainly like the player and Mikel Arteta is a big ‘admirer’ of him. The journalist further claims that Arsenal think Luiz would be an ideal replacement for Partey so they could look to sign him in the upcoming transfer window.
Arsenal keen on signing Luiz
Wheatley said:
“It’s the weekly Douglas Luiz update. He’s obviously a player Arsenal like, we’ve spoken about him a lot in the past few weeks, he’s a Brazilian midfielder, Edu is Brazilian and a big admirer of the player, as is Mikel Arteta. He’s kind of seen as an ideal replacement for Thomas Partey who has had a series of injury problems over the past few years.”
It has been suggested that Aston Villa have no intention of letting their star man leave so it won’t be easy for the North London club to get any potential deal done for the South American.
It has also been reported that if Arsenal want to purchase the midfielder then they will have to submit a lucrative proposal to persuade the Villans to cash-in.
Luiz – valued at around £48m by Transfermarkt – is a highly talented player and has already showcased his qualities in the Premier League. So, he would be a great coup for Arsenal if they manage to secure his signature in the upcoming transfer window.
However, it is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal eventually manage to acquire his service should they opt to make a concrete approach next year.
